Learn the Truth About Puppy Mills

8Puppy mills are legal large or small dog breeding facilities where dogs are constantly bred and puppies are mass produced purely for profit. It is a dog-breeding operation in which the health of the breeding dogs is generally disregarded in order to maintain a low overhead and maximize profits.

Dogs are considered "livestock" in the eyes of the USDA so puppy mills are legal.

FACT: There are approximately 10,000 puppy mills in the United States. These commercial "dog mating" facilities supply our nations pet stores, sell directly to the public thru beautiful disguised  websites  as well as thru newspaper ads.

FACT: According to The Humane Society United States, “99% of pet shop puppies come from puppy mills."

Buyer Beware!

Pet stores, newspaper ads or web sites selling dogs will tell you anything to sell a puppy.

  • Puppy mills usually house dogs in overcrowded unsanitary conditions.  These poor breeding dogs live their lives without adequate vet care, food, water and socialization.
  • They are usually kept in all wire cages that can be stacked in columns.
  • Breeding dogs may live their lives in cages exposed to extreme hot and cold or they may live in an enclosed barn never to see the outdoors.
  • Finally, when these poor breeding dogs can no longer produce a profitable litter, they are either killed or sold at auction.

Our mission is to educate the public and raise awareness about puppy mills and their direct connection to puppies sold in pet stores, newspaper ads or online thru disguised web sites. The primary reason that puppy mills are in business is because of demand from the public. There are many consumers who are willing to pay high prices for puppies without realizing where they come from. If people knew the truth, most would not want to support this cruel and secret industry.

Buying a puppy from a pet store, online or thru a newspaper ad DOES NOT SAVE A DOG, it perpetuates the problem. FOR EVERY DOG SOLD, THERE ARE TWO DOGS THAT ARE SUFFERING IN A MILL.

BUYING A PUPPY IN A PET STORE OR ONLINE, SENTENCES THE MOTHER AND FATHER DOG TO A LIFE OF MISERY

It is a simple case of supply and demand and puppy mills will continue to exist producing puppies for stores and internet sales as long as people continue to buy them.
