Volunteer Opportunities

The Puppy Mill Project relies entirely on the efforts of volunteers to accomplish our mission. We need volunteers in the following areas.

Community & Special Events

  • We are looking for individuals who are interested in joining our Community and Special Events teams in the greater Chicago region and surrounding areas. We hold at least three events each year of various sizes and always need hands-on help at these events. Evening and weekend availability is required.

Community Outreach & Peaceful Protests

  • Our Community Outreach teams of volunteers represent The Puppy Mill Project at expos, fairs, festivals, and other community events throughout the city of Chicago and suburbs to educate the public, raise awareness, and develop our network. Mostly weekend availability, comfortable speaking with the public, familiarity with TPMP’s message and puppy mill facts required. Peaceful Protest volunteers help to educate and raise awareness. Public speaking background is not necessary, and signs are provided. We are non-confrontational and respectful.

Education

  • We are looking for individuals who are interested in helping us spread the word about puppy mills. Joining our Education Committee means assisting our Education Chairpersons in giving educational presentations to K-12 students in public and private schools, camps and other institutions. Weekday availability, comfortable with public speaking and additional training required. Mandatory background check required.

Fundraising & Sponsorship

  • We are looking for individuals who are interested in joining our Fundraising & Sponsorship team. We hold up to three fundraising events each year and always need help gathering donations and sponsors. You should be comfortable with asking for financial support, both monetary and in-kind, and possess excellent interpersonal skills.

Legislation & Research

  • We work with local, state and national government officials and policy makers to draft and enact legislation aimed at reducing the demand for puppy mill puppies and improve the lives of puppy mill dogs. The Puppy Mill Project worked to pass the Companion Animal and Consumer Protection Ordinance in Chicago, and helped to pass similar legislation in Cook County, IL. In addition, we frequently collaborate with other organizations and individuals working on related efforts in other states. We are constantly being contacted by people who have purchased sick puppies or puppies that have died after purchase.

Have a special skill or talent that you think could assist TPMP? An idea for a new project? Please let us know and we find a way to get you involved.
